About the artist

When I am creating my oil and cold wax paintings, I am combining colors and textures in a playful and intuitive working style creating depth and spatial relationships derived from nature as well as incorporating abstracted landscape imagery.

The peacefulness, the power, and the beauty of the landscape has always intrigued me as I continue to express those qualities of the ‘pristine’ and ‘unspoiled’ landscape which is being threatened and is quickly vanishing. It is not a specific time or place, but an overall serene feeling of nature that I ma trying to create.

I build up layers of oil paint/cold wax (or encaustic) on wood panels, very carefully, while scraping and gouging and creating ‘surface tension’ which I then transform into a peaceful, subtle mix of texture and natural colors. I strive to accomplish a feel of serenity not only as I paint but for the viewer as well.

The multiple layers have visual and emotion connections with the land and tell the story and complexity of various life experiences – memories, journeys and my vision of nature elements. My work has evolved over the years from ‘busy’ to ‘minimalist’ which is right where I want to be.

I have been a full time artist for 14 years and have signature status in national Watercolor Society and International Society of Acrylic Painters.
